Stores are closing all across the country not only because of the slowing economy, but also because of greater retail theft.
Stores are changing the way they put goods on the shelves to try and end shoplifting and looting.
But now this home improvement store is upping its security game in a major way because illegal aliens are taking over the parking lot.
NY Home Depot hires extra security
A Home Depot store in New Rochelle, New York, has recently hired some additional help to protect its store: a guard dog and extra security guards.
The store hired new security to protect shoppers from aggressive thieves and illegal aliens who are flooding the parking lot, according to information from The New York Post.
Now, two men wearing bulletproof vests, with a German Shepherd on a leash, patrol the Home Depot parking lot to look for criminals.
MSA Security was contracted by the store a few weeks ago.
One MSA security guard said, “It’s more about omnipresence. It’s not like we let them go bite anyone or anything,” referring to the dogs.
According to the guard, “It’s not just because of [illegal aliens], but because of a myriad of other things too, like people breaking into cars, that kind of stuff.”
When The Post visited the store in New Rochelle, the parking lot was quiet, and there were no illegal aliens to be seen.
But at a Home Depot in Throggs Neck, The Bronx, at least 30 male illegal aliens were hanging around by the doors at the store, which is located seven miles away.
Some people believe most of the illegal aliens are day laborers looking for work, but many others aggressively walk up to customers and try to sell them fake Apple Air Pods or ask for tips for helping customers load items into their cars.
One Home Depot employee said, “You come out and you’re a woman by yourself, they literally leech onto your wagon, and you’re like, ‘No, I don’t need any help.’ And when they’re following you to your car, it’s unnerving.”
The worker said a female supervisor saw one man washing his private parts with a water bottle in the parking lot, and several women already called customer service to complain that illegal aliens had stolen their purses and phones.
More illegal aliens equals more crime
According to the Home Depot employee, more grifters have taken over the parking lot as the population of illegal aliens has exploded in New York.
“I came to work one day and there had to be 100 guys out here. And I’m like, ‘Oh my God!’” she added.
One regular at the Throggs Neck store said she and her husband experienced a scary incident last month.
The shopper said a man ran over to her and asked if he could take her stuff, but her husband said no.
“He still keeps following, like on top of us. I said, ‘No, thank you,’” she said.
Then, the man “put his hand” on one of their boxes in the cart, but her husband said, “Don’t touch anything” as she grabbed her pepper spray and yelled at the man.
The customer called Home Depot’s Atlanta headquarters but got “the brush off.”
Meanwhile, a regional manager told her they were getting ready to bring security dogs to two Bronx stores, and Home Depot corporate spokeswoman Margaret Smith says the company prohibits loitering and solicitation at its stores.
