Now, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is going to war with this George Soros-backed prosecutor, sending a signal they do not want to turn into NYC.
DeSantis fires Soros-backed prosecutor
Leftist billionaire George Soros has pumped millions of dollars into elections for District Attorneys across the country.
This has resulted in prosecutors who use the office politically, and go easy on the actual criminals.
A Florida State Attorney, Andrew Warren, has been ignoring laws passed by the Republican-controlled legislature.
Warren recently decided to pick a major fight with Governor DeSantis.
DeSantis signed a law in 2022 that banned abortion after 15 weeks.
But Warren said he won’t enforce the law simply because he doesn’t agree with it.
“I refuse to let this man trample on your freedoms to speak your mind, to make your own health care decisions, and to have your vote count,” Warren said at the time, referring to DeSantis.
DeSantis responded with constitutional authority as Governor to suspend Warren.
He appointed Suzy Lopez to replace Warren as the state attorney.
DeSantis expressed confidence that the voters will keep her in office.
“My action was based on the constitutional authority I have as governor and it was appropriate what we did and it has made Hillsborough County safer as a result,” DeSantis said.
“Criminals are held accountable in a much more significant way since Suzy Lopez has been the state attorney.”
He announced that the days of lawlessness under Warren were over.
“Talk to any of the sheriffs’ deputies, talk to the sheriff himself about the change that’s happened,” DeSantis continued. “Recycling criminals and letting them out, going easy, that doesn’t work.”
A reporter asked if DeSantis would again suspend Warren if he wins the upcoming election.
But DeSantis says he believes the voters will choose to keep Lopez to stop criminals from running rampant in Florida.
“We’ve seen a lot of bad ideas be implemented, we know what works, we know Florida’s crime rate is at a 50-year low, we know that our retail theft is actually down since I’ve been governor, yet we just did great legislation to hold these folks accountable,” DeSantis said.
DeSantis has made it clear that Soros’ schemes to install lawless prosecutors isn’t going to fly in Florida.
