Most Americans enjoy going to a concert for the live music experience.

But too much alcohol and a few bad apples can ruin the night.

And George Strait and Chris Stapleton just caused one gigantic nightmare for Iowa police.

Concerts make up a significant chunk of the music industry around the world.

Streaming services have greatly diminished revenue from album sales, so artists make a huge portion of their money from touring.

In 2023, events company Live Nation organized over 50,000 concerts worldwide and generated an eye-popping $22.75 billion in revenue.

Shows have become so popular that May 5 is officially recognized as National Concert Day in the U.S.

Recently, country music royalty George Strait performed in front of thousands of fans at Iowa State University’s Jack Trice Stadium.

Strait, who’s known as the “King of Country Music,” holds the record for the most number-one songs on all charts by an artist across all music genres.

Strait also holds the record for the biggest indoor concert crowd in America with his 2014 performance in Arlington, Texas, which drew 104,793 attendees.

Strait shared the stage with fellow country music superstar Chris Stapleton, and the two combined for a show that could have gotten wildly out of hand.

Although Stapleton didn’t produce his first album until 2015, he has won ten Grammy Awards, ten Academy of Country Music Awards, fourteen Country Music Association Awards, and five Billboard Music Awards, among many accolades.

The show was the first concert held at Jack Trice Stadium since Strait’s Country Music Festival in 1999.

Despite a starting price of $90 per ticket, country music fans poured into Jack Trice Stadium to see Strait and Stapleton perform.

Even though the doors did not open until 4:30 p.m., thousands of fans filled the parking lot in order to tailgate before the show.

Needless to say, thousands of fans drinking for hours before the concert can be a recipe for disaster.

Fortunately, according to the Iowa State University Police Department, Strait’s and Stapleton’s fans were generally on good behavior.

Only seven people were arrested, and five of those were for simply being intoxicated in public.

Additionally, there were 91 first aid calls made, and one minor was cited for underage possession of alcohol.

Iowa police only had to kick out one person from the concert out of thousands.

“We would like to thank all our public safety partners who helped us last night for the George Strait Concert,” the Iowa State University Police Department wrote on social media. “It takes a team to pull off safety & security for an event! We could not do it without our partners. We will see you all back at Jack Trice Stadium when football begins.”

In a follow-up post on social media, the Iowa State University Police detailed the number of arrests from the concert.

“Final Concert stats: 1 citation, 7 arrests, 91 first aid calls, 5 Ambulances Conveyances,” the Iowa State University Police reported. “Thank you to all the great George Strait concert fans.”

With all of the chaos taking place at crowded events lately, George Strait and Chris Stapleton certainly breathed a sigh of relief that their concert did not turn into a disastrous Astroworld Festival where fans were crushed during a Travis Scott rap concert.
