Florida Governor Ron DeSantis stood up for kids and parents when he signed the Parental Rights Bill in Education into law in April of 2022.
The Left’s biggest ally in Florida, “woke” Disney World, used every tool at their disposal to stop him.
But now it is Ron DeSantis who is smiling in the Sunshine State as he just showed everyone how to win against woke.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has spent the past 4 1/2 years tearing apart the radical woke ideology in the Sunshine State.
He signed legislation that removed Critical Race Theory and other woke courses from the curriculum in government schools.
DeSantis also banned biological males from participating in women’s sports and ended the Left’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) programs from colleges and universities.
But the most controversial legislation DeSantis signed was the Parental Rights in Education Bill in April of 2022.
The bill simply blocked teachers from grooming children in kindergarten through third grade into the transgender lifestyle through sexually-inappropriate curriculum.
But the Democrats and the media falsely misnamed it the “Don’t Say Gay Bill” and accused DeSantis of waging a war on the LGBTQ community.
Walt Disney is the biggest employer and most powerful corporation in Florida.
During the battle over parental rights, Disney sided with the radical LGBTQ lobby and tried to use its power to strongarm DeSantis into dropping his support for the bill.
Disney CEO Bob Chapek spoke out against the bill and donated $5 million to LGBTQ groups in a display of woke virtue signaling.
Disney properties ESPN and ABC News also came out against the bill.
But not only did DeSantis sign the bill into law, he also made Disney pay for its woke activism by signing legislation that eliminated its special tax and governing privileges, known as the Reedy Creek Improvement District, in Florida.
The mechanism of Reedy Creek gave Disney governmental control over the land in and around its theme parks.
Disney tried to stop DeSantis by filing multiple lawsuits in court.
But after more than a year of legal fights, Disney caved in and agreed to a settlement earlier this year.
And in an even bigger win, Disney, despite threatening to leave the state, just unveiled a $17 billion proposal to build a fifth theme park in Florida.
“A new development deal between Disney and Gov. Ron DeSantis might grease the wheels for a fifth new Disney World park in Central Florida,” Newsmax reported. “The DeSantis-appointed Central Florida Tourism Oversight District is expected to vote on the new deal as soon as June 15, which could permit Disney to move forward with a $17 billion development over 10-20 years.”
“DeSantis’ deal would give benefits for using local contractors and require at least 50% of all construction to be done by Florida-based companies, in addition to Disney funding ‘attainable’ housing projects,” Newsmax also reported.
This is a major win for DeSantis, who has been calling for a fifth theme park in Florida.
“It’s just gonna be a huge game changer,” DeSantis said. “It’s bigger than [Universal’s] other two parks combined. I’ve got to think that Disney would want to answer that [to] keep up with the competition.”
