“These stamps celebrate the 250th anniversary of our nation and pay tribute to the heroes who fought and sacrificed for American independence,” said Judy de Torok, the Postal Service’s corporate affairs vice president, who served as the stamps’ dedicating official during the ceremony.

Beautiful designs showcase pivotal Revolutionary War battles
The stamp collection features five distinct battlefields that changed the course of American history: Lexington and Concord, Bunker Hill, Trenton, Saratoga, and Yorktown.
Each battle is represented by both a modern photograph of the historic site and a dramatic watercolor illustration depicting a pivotal moment from that battle.
The Battle of Lexington and Concord stamps show the iconic Old North Bridge alongside an illustration of American militia retaking the bridge from withdrawing British troops on April 19, 1775 – the “shot heard ’round the world” that began our fight for independence.
The Battle of Bunker Hill is memorialized with an illustration showing the second British assault on Breed’s Hill from the American defenders’ perspective, paired with a photograph of the Bunker Hill Monument that stands in Boston today.
For the Battle of Trenton, the stamps feature the Old Barracks Museum that once housed Hessian and British soldiers, along with a stirring illustration of George Washington crossing the Delaware River before his surprise attack on December 26, 1776.
The Battle of Saratoga stamps showcase British General John Burgoyne surrendering to American General Horatio Gates on October 17, 1777 – a turning point that convinced France to enter the war on America’s side.
Finally, the Battle of Yorktown is represented by photographs of reconstructed British defenses captured by American and French forces, alongside an illustration of the formal British surrender on October 19, 1781, which effectively ended the Revolutionary War.
