DOJ election monitors already fanned out to 15 jurisdictions across six states this year.
Now Harmeet Dhillon says that operation is about to get much bigger.
The number of monitors coming for the midterms will make this the biggest deployment in DOJ history and it must have Democrats worried.
Harmeet Dhillon Confirms 1,000 Election Monitors for the Midterm Elections
Harmeet Dhillon runs the Justice Department's Civil Rights Division.
The Civil Rights Division has sent monitors to polling places since the Voting Rights Act era, but never anywhere close to this scale.
She told Bloomberg the DOJ plans to deploy roughly 1,000 election monitors this November.
"We just did it in the primary," Dhillon said.
"We will do it to the tune of approximately 1,000 election monitors in the November election."
Dhillon called it "probably going to be a historic number for a Republican administration."
The monitors will watch polling sites and support investigations if problems come up.
They will not intervene on Election Day itself.
Each monitor will carry the same legal status as any other election observer under state law, nothing more.
"We respect state law," Dhillon said.
"If their perimeter is 150 yards, we respect that," she added.
Her stated goal is simple enough.
"I just want every citizen at the end of the day . . . to accept the outcome of our elections because they have been run cleanly," Dhillon said.
Past Democrat Administrations Sent a Fraction of the Poll Monitors Trump's DOJ Is Sending Now
Compare this to what Democrats did with the same job when they ran the department.
The Biden administration sent monitors to 86 jurisdictions in 2024 and 64 jurisdictions in 2022.
Trump's own first term topped out at 44 jurisdictions in 2020.
None of those figures come close to 1,000 monitors in a single election cycle.
Those jurisdiction counts also don't tell you how many actual monitors Democrats sent inside each one, and neither administration ever published a full breakdown.
A thousand people on the ground for one election is a different scale entirely from a list of jurisdictions on a press release.

Left-wing legal groups are already sounding alarms about the size of this deployment.
Follow their logic for a second.
Democrats have spent a decade insisting American elections need more transparency and more federal eyes on the ground.
Trump's Justice Department just delivered exactly that, at a scale no administration has ever come close to matching.
And suddenly, according to the same people, transparency is the problem.
Harmeet Dhillon isn't hiding the ball here.
She told a reporter the exact number, the legal limits her monitors will respect, and the goal behind the whole operation before a single ballot gets cast this fall.
That's not a partisan operation trying to sneak something past unsuspecting voters.
That's a Justice Department publicly committing to the same standard Democrats claimed to want for years, right up until Republicans were the ones providing it.
If Democrats actually believed their own talking points about election integrity, they'd be thanking Dhillon instead of panicking about her.
If Republicans hold their ground this November, expect this deployment to become the new baseline for every election after it.
