The situation in Israel is fluid and dangerous and politicians are making some outrageous statements.
This is crucial in the GOP race for the Presidency where we get to see how the politicians react under pressure to see who is the most capable to handle a crisis.
And Ron DeSantis just blew up one of his rivals’ outrageous ideas with this one blunt comment.
DeSantis lays the hammer on Nikki Haley
The situation in Israel is a horrific crisis that is forcing many Americans to take a stand.
And Florida Governor Ron DeSantis had a few things to say about the terroristic acts that recently took place in the country.
At a recent campaign event in Iowa, DeSantis spoke about the conflict, saying that the United States cannot accept people from Gaza into the country as refugees.
He said, “If you look at how [people in Gaza] behave, not all of them are Hamas, but they are all anti-Semitic. We cannot accept people from Gaza into this country as refugees.”
The governor said that the “Arab states” should take them instead.
“You don’t fly people and import them into the United States of America,” he continued.
DeSantis also called for a “swift and lethal response” after Hamas’ attacks.
But Nikki Haley, former Governor of South Carolina and former U.N. ambassador, said that “half of Palestinians” do not want to be under Hamas rule.
“There are so many of these people who want to be free from this terrorist rule. They want to be free from all of that. And America has always been sympathetic to the fact that you can separate civilians from terrorists,” she said while speaking during an appearance on CNN’s State of the Union program.
Following Haley’s statements, DeSantis appeared in an interview with NBC’s Dasha Burns, where he was asked about the comments.
He retorted, “She’s trying to be politically correct. She’s trying to please the media and people on the Left. I don’t care about that. I’m gonna speak the truth and let the chips fall where they may.”
Speaking on CBS’ Face the Nation, DeSantis continued to defend his remarks, saying, “They teach kids to hate Jews. The textbooks do not have Israel, even on the map. They prepare very young kids to commit terrorist attacks. So, I think it’s a toxic culture.”
DeSantis isn’t backing down
Despite Nikki Haley’s hints at accusing Ron DeSantis of racism, the candidate isn’t backing down.
He told host Margaret Brennan, “And I think if we were to import large numbers of those [Gazans] to the United States, I think it would increase anti-Semitism in this country and I think it would increase anti-Americanism in this country.”
For Haley’s part, she continued to toss criticism at her rivals, including Donald Trump, who called the Iranian-backed militant group Hezbollah “very smart” during a recent campaign speech.
She said, “You don’t congratulate or give any credit to murderers, period.”
All of the banter comes as Nikki Haley has seen a rise in the polls, with her numbers improving in early states.
But for now, Ron DeSantis is clearly not backing down from his stance, regardless of the rhetoric.
