Ron DeSantis triggered the Left like no one except for Donald Trump.

Even celebrities have lost their cool attacking the Florida Governor.

And NFL legend Emmitt Smith stepped on a rake when he tried to challenge DeSantis.

DeSantis’ war on “woke”

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is taking a sledgehammer to “woke” academia.

Neo-Marxist claptrap like Critical Race Theory (CRT) and radical gender ideology have been in his sights.

The “woke” trinity of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) replace merit with a race, gender, and sexual orientation-based spoils system.

It has become the rubric that the Left use to spread propaganda in universities and K-12 education.

It also is a violation of the Constitution, but leftists don’t care.

That is why DeSantis signed a bill outlawing DEI at Florida’s public colleges and universities.

DeSantis declared, “Florida is where DEI goes to die.”

“DEI is toxic and has no place in our public universities,” The Governor added. “I’m glad that Florida was the first state to eliminate DEI and I hope more states follow suit.”

Emmitt Smith desperately defends DEI

Former Dallas Cowboys running back Emmitt Smith was furious at his alma mater, the University of Florida, for dumping its DEI office in reaction to the new law.

Smith raged earlier this year after the university first announced that it was scrapping DEI.

In an interview with USA Today, Smith continued to lash out at Florida’s decision to unravel its DEI bureaucracy.

“When I see them destroying DEI for the sake of politics. . .it’s not even common sense,” Smith claimed. “This is just sheer out of spite and sheer power.”

The Hall of Famer continued, “At the end of the day, this country was built on people fighting for what is right for everybody, not just a select few. . .And with that fight, and with the University of Florida being as visible as it is, it irked me. To the fullest.”

Smith said that Florida’s President had previously stated the university would stand up to political pressure.

“’Nah, we’re the University of Florida. We’re going to be here a lot longer than you, (Gov.) Ron DeSantis, a lot longer than you, Jeb Bush; we’re going to be here a lot longer than any other governor that tries to push something of this magnitude down the throats of so many Americans and so many Florida citizens.’” Smith recalled the university president declaring.

The ex-NFL star asserted without evidence that getting rid of DEI would prevent students from becoming leaders, which makes zero sense.

This is particularly strange because the NFL and college football is totally merit based.  If the NFL tried to run on a DEI model most of the players would be fired.

Smith said, “Because when I was in college, and everywhere I’ve been, they always talked about leadership. . .and how we needed to become leaders – especially athletes.”

DEI has nothing to do with leadership.

It’s a patronage system for political activists.

Smith then connected the elimination of DEI with the inception of Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL), which allows for student athletes to market themselves for money, something that was prohibited only a few years ago.

Smith ranted, “So let’s not talk about dismantling DEI at a time. I think DEI happens to be a consequence of NIL. You get one, they take the other one away. It’s strategic.”

Smith is out of his depth on this issue.

NIL has nothing to do with DEI.

The benefactors are not even the same people.

The Left can feel their power over the culture slipping.
