James Carville warns Democrats to hold their horses
Veteran Democrat strategist James Carville and top Bill Clinton adviser has seen it all in electoral politics.
And he appeared on MSNBC’s Morning Joe to be the Democrats’ killjoy.
Carville stated, “This has been a real change in mood in the party and around the country, but we got to be a little careful.”
Carville let Joe Scarborough’s viewers know that there is a long way to go until November.
He explained, “About ten percent too much triumphalism going on, and you know, it’s going to be a very difficult race. It’s going to be very close, and I understand that people are feeling a lot better and excited. But that excitement has got to be tempered with realism, and the realism is she has a tough campaign.”
Co-host Mika Brzezinski asked Carville what he meant about “the realism” that was on the horizon.
He said that building a national campaign on the fly was not going to be a walk in the park.
Carville said, “You’re right, and they’re having to put a campaign together right away. They were obviously thinking about this ahead of time, but they got they got to accomplish between now and the convention, they got accomplish what most campaigns have eight months to do. So I’m not I’m not saying it can’t do it, but people are excited about the party feeling better about itself.”
Harris does not have time to build her own Presidential campaign from scratch, so she’s leaning on the flagging campaign that her boss built.
Carville declared, “And all I’m saying to Democrats is, enjoy yourself, feel good, but it’s tough sledding ahead.”
Democrats are energized because they think that voters will simply forget that Harris is a part of the deeply unpopular Biden administration.
They have deluded themselves into believing that Biden’s cognitive decline was the only obstacle.
But the score of a football game does not reset to zero just because the backup quarterback comes into the game.
Harris brings plenty of political baggage to the race as Biden’s Vice President and her own failed primary challenge in 2020.
