Serving in public office comes with inherent risks for not only the office holder, but also their families.

But with crime increasing, it is frankly difficult to know if a violent attack is politically motivated or not.

The Secret Service just stopped an attack on a member of Joe Biden’s family that could be political – or it might be these were the dumbest criminals of all time.

Secret Service protecting Naomi Biden opens fire on criminal

Naomi Biden is President Joe Biden’s 29-year-old granddaughter and is the daughter of Hunter Biden and his ex-wife Kathleen Buhle.

The first granddaughter works as a lawyer at the firm of Arnold & Porter and is married to Peter Neal, after a November 2022 White House wedding ceremony.

Because of her relationship with the President, Naomi has a U.S. Secret Service detail assigned to protect her.

Recently, agents encountered three criminals who broke a window on a parked, unoccupied government SUV.

One of the agents assigned to protect Naomi Biden opened fire on the suspects, which was confirmed by the agency in a statement obtained by Fox News.

The vehicle was parked in the Georgetown neighborhood of Washington, D.C., and the incident happened just before midnight.

A federal agent discharged a service weapon during the encounter, and as of now, it appears that no one was struck.

However, the suspects immediately fled the scene in a red-colored vehicle, while a regional “be on the lookout” call was made to supporting units.

A statement released after the incident said, “There was no threat to any protectees and the incident is being investigated by the DC Metropolitan Police Department and the Secret Service.”

The crime occurred while Secret Service agents were out with Naomi Biden late Sunday night when they observed three people trying to break into the unmarked Secret Service vehicle.

Although there is currently no clear indication whether or not this was a targeted attack, it is certainly cause for concern, as the nation’s capital has seen a massive uptick in crime this year.

Washington residents are on edge

The incident with Biden’s granddaughter only highlights a growing concern about crime in the nation’s capital.

Police say that there have already been over 750 carjackings this year and more than 6,000 reports of stolen vehicles within district limits.

Last month, US Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-TX) was carjacked near the Capitol by three armed assailants who stole his car but did not personally harm him in any way.

Overall, violent crime in Washington is on the rise at over 40% when compared to last year.

Rep. Angie Craig (D-MN) was assaulted in her apartment building and ended up with bruises, although she was able to escape more serious injury.

As for the recent incident, it’s not clear whether Naomi Biden heard the commotion, but she was made aware of it after it happened.

For now, the Metropolitan Police Department says, “We have no further information at this time.”
