The auto industry is in turmoil.
For the last few years, they have been moving away from power and performance.
And now, this iconic Chevy is now the last full-size SUV you can buy with this high-powered engine.
Full sized vehicles with V-8 engines are an endangered species.
The Chevy Tahoe is the last one standing
In fact, the 2025 Chevy Tahoe is now the very last full-sized SUV on the market with a V-8.
Competing SUVs from Ford, Jeep, Lincoln, Nissan, and Toyota now all use turbocharged six-cylinder engines.Â
And while the move away from V-8’s has been coming, no one thought it would happen so quickly.
The Tahoe has the distinct feel of a vehicle with two of its tires stuck in the 1990s.Â
And for many car guys, this is a good thing.
But the 2025 styling, 10-speed automatic transmission, 24-inch wheels, and refined independent suspension put at least one of its wheels in the present, and another in the future.Â
The huge 6.2-liter V-8 in this 2025 top end High Country model is a joy for fans of power and performance.
And many Chevy fans already are aware of the facts and figures of this engine by rote.
It has 420 hp, 460 lb-ft, 16 overhead valves, and a single camshaft in the block, just like it was back in 1954.Â
The 2025 models come with the option of rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive with an automatic setting.
While marginally slower than the 2023 model, the 2025 Tahoe still clocks in at 60 mph in 6.3 seconds and can do the quarter mile in 14.8 seconds at 93.7 mph.Â
And the huge V-8 makes the Tahoe feel a lot quicker than it actually is.Â
Power and performance remains in the Chevy Tahoe
The power is real.
On the starting line for its test run, the brakes could barely contain the powerful engine.
With one foot on the brakes, and one on the gas, the Tahoe built up so much torque that it couldn’t be contained and kept inching forward.
So, if you decide to purchase the 2025 Tahoe make sure and get the high-performance brakes in the three-ton SUV.Â
With so much power it’s not surprising that the steering can be slow and marginally sluggish.
This is not a vehicle for turn-on-dime maneuvers.
But then again, drivers of massive SUVs are not buying them to drive around the racetrack.Â
And for SUV owners the Tahoe is simply a joy to drive on the open roadway.
The 10-speed automatic is finely tuned to showcase the V-8’s low-end torque, and the Tahoe always drives like it has power to spare.Â
The new 2025 Tahoe High Country has air springs, as well as standard-fit magnetic ride shocks, making it a much smoother ride than the 2021-2024 versions.
While it still rides like a truck, it is much more comfortable than even last year’s model.
The 2025 Tahoe doesn’t let you forget its giant size, incredible power, and massive towing capability.
It also has increased space in the back seat, a sophisticated rear-seat entertainment system, and a ton of cargo room.
For all the pluses in the new Tahoe there is one major drawback – the price.
The basic 2025 Chevrolet Tahoe High Country 4WD lists at $83,195.
The V-8 SUV is now a dying breed.Â
