Donald Trump is now one step closer to jail thanks to Alvin Bragg

Alvin Bragg’s lawfare against Donald Trump has crossed a line that no one saw coming.

He is clearly engaging in election interference against the leading GOP candidate, but they forgot that Donald Trump won’t back down.

Now Alvin Bragg has escalated Donald Trump’s trial to the point where a Presidential candidate can end up in jail.

Judge will not allow Trump to defend himself

Democrat prosecutor Alvin Bragg convinced Democrat Judge Juan Merchan to impose a gag order that restricted the political speech of Donald Trump, the Republican candidate for President of the United States.

Bragg also demanded Merchan fine, and even jail, Trump for supposed “violations” of this gag order when he responded to political attacks by witnesses like Michael Cohen.

So people can dump on Trump all they want, but he cannot respond in kind.

Merchan, a Democrat activist whose daughter is fundraising off the case, rubber-stamped Bragg’s request.

“Merely characterizing every one of Defendant’s postings as a response to a ‘political attack’ does not make them so,” Merchan wrote in denying Trump’s argument that his comments against Cohen were made in response to him using the trial to argue Americans shouldn’t re-elect Trump.

Merchan warned that future violations would land Trump in jail.

Merchan continued, “Defendant is hereby warned that the Court will not tolerate continued willful violations of its lawful orders and that if necessary and appropriate under the circumstances, it will impose an incarceratory punishment.”

Judge Merchan then fined Trump $1,000 per gag order violation and $9,000 in total.

“ORDERED, that Defendant pay a $1,000 fine for each of the nine violations of this Court’s lawful order by the close of business on Friday, May 3, 2024; and it is further ORDERED that Defendant remove the seven offending posts from Defendant’s Truth Social account and the two offending posts from his campaign website by 2:15 p.m. Tuesday, April 30, 2024,” Merchan decreed.

Merchan also complained that New York law only allowed for a maximum fine of $1,000 per violation and said that that would not stop a rich defendant like Trump.

The judge said that monetary sanctions “unfortunately will not achieve the desired result in those instances where the contemnor can easily afford such a fine.”

Merchan then doubled down on his threat to put Trump behind bars by writing that he “must therefore consider whether in some instances, jail may be a necessary punishment.”

Trump calls out gag order for the nonsense that it is

Trump is not one to back down from a fight, and he did not in this instance, calling the gag order unconstitutional.

Trump said, “The gag order has to come off. . . People are allowed to speak about me, and I have a gag order, just to show you how much more unfair it is.”

Trump is fighting with one hand tied behind his back because cameras and recording devices are not allowed in the courtroom, so the Democrat-controlled media get to set the narrative.

He is also at a disadvantage because he cannot call out the case as the political witch hunt that it is.

Trump said of Cohen and his ilk, “They can say anything they want. . .They can continue to make up lies and everything else. They lie. They’re real scum. But you know what, I’m not allowed to speak.”

The treatment of Trump added credence to his claim that he is being targeted.

Trump mused, “So why am I gagged about telling the truth? . . . I’m only telling the truth. They’re not telling the truth.”
